Access database viewer apps for Android, compared
Three Android apps that open Microsoft Access files: Km4Dev’s Viewer for MS Access ACCDB-MDB, MDB Viewer: Access DB Editor, and Keyfield. What each one does, how each one is paid for, and where the other two are better than ours.
Short answer
If you need to edit an Access database on your phone, for free, MDB Viewer is the one of these three that does it. If you only need to read the file, and perhaps hand a table on as a spreadsheet, Keyfield reads it without asking for access to all your files, shows the saved queries as SQL, and charges once for export. Km4Dev’s viewer has by far the most installs and the longest history.

Where the other two are better
- MDB Viewer edits, for free. If you need to change a value, add a row or fix a typo on your phone, MDB Viewer does that and Keyfield cannot: Keyfield is a reader by design.
- MDB Viewer charges nothing for export. Its CSV export comes at no cost, and it has no in-app purchases at all. Keyfield’s export is part of Keyfield Pro.
- MDB Viewer’s listing says it opens password-protected databases. We haven’t tested which kinds. Keyfield opens
.mdbpasswords free and Access 2007 passwords with Pro, and can’t open Access 2010+ encryption yet. - Km4Dev has the track record. It has been on Google Play since 2016 and has more than a million installs. Happy reviewers praise speed: one says it “let’s me get the data I need quickly”.
What reviewers mention
From reviews on each app’s Play listing, read 3 October 2026, paraphrased unless quoted:
- Km4Dev: a review dated 30 September 2024 objects to a new requirement to grant permission to access all files (“Am now looking for a replacement so I can uninstall”, 9 people found it helpful). One dated 9 January 2025 calls the redesigned filter “horrible” compared with the old one (24 found it helpful). One dated 21 January 2026 says ads take up more than half the screen in landscape and asks how to pay to remove them.
- MDB Viewer: its newest negative review calls it a “very limited interface, pretty much useless.” We didn’t record its positive reviews that day; read them on its listing before deciding.
Where Keyfield is different
- It only sees the file you open. Files come through Android’s picker or another app’s “Open with”, and Keyfield copies that one file into its own storage. There is no storage permission to grant.
- It shows how the database fits together: saved queries as SQL, the relationships between tables, and every field with its type.
- The grid is built for a phone: columns you can widen, search across every column, plain-word filters, a row as a form, and on a tablet in landscape the table list beside the open table.
- No ads, for anyone. Viewing is free with no limit on files or rows, and Keyfield Pro is paid once.
What Keyfield is not
It doesn’t edit, doesn’t run queries, and doesn’t show forms, reports or macros. Linked tables are listed with where they point, but not opened. Files encrypted by Access 2010 and later don’t open yet. Export, saving attachments and Access 2007 password files need Keyfield Pro. If any of those is the thing you need, one of the other two may suit you better.
